I am a Literacy Interventionist by profession and DIYer by choice and design.  I grew up in Jamaica watching my mother sew to make a living.  From even before my teens I was helping with hems, buttons and ironing pleats.  I started using the Singer pedal machine we owned when I was ten years old. In Jamaica we used a system for cutting that we called FREEHAND, its called self-drafting in America.  That means we do not cut garments from a pattern, we just fold the fabric and cut. I would make little easy-sew items for myself whenever I got a chance to use the machine. Until I made patterns myself, I had never used a sewing pattern.  

I passed on sewing customs work in favor of sewing items for sale in my Etsy shop, but quickly realized that my inconsistency does not bring home the bacon.  Like most creative-minded persons I struggled with myself;  having adult A.D.H.D makes being consistent a challenge.  

I decided to start making patterns in the summer of 2022 after being asked to make tutorials for the items I had made.  It took me until I was 48 years old to understand that I could use my talent this way.  My mother would never have dreamed that what she passed on to me could be part of her legacy. We never imagined that this would ever be possible.  I am learning everyday how to make a professional pattern, but I thoroughly enjoy the process.  I feel quite at home with my yard stick and pencils; I could spend every day doing patterns.  With having only had two to four weeks or formal training with sewing, I am very excited for my pattern empire that I am manifesting.
